This beautiful, bright poppy mural was created for Calderstones School's Eco-Garden. It is painted in the walled-garden, on a wall which was in quite a dark corner.

The large scale red and yellow flowers really transform the wall. It makes a great back drop for the students to tend the garden and study nature.

The wall is pretty old and its condition was varied. Some of the mortar gaps were quite deep, but I didn't want to do any skimming or pointing as I like the old brick wall effect. Instead, I used a watered down undercoat to ensure the paint worked its way into the gaps.

I think it is a great project at Calderstones, giving the pupils the opportunity to learn about ecology and horticulture.

As an aside, Calderstones was the school that John Lennon attended but it was known as Quarry Bank in those days.

My latest mural - a vibrant, bright colourful mural painted for the Taco Bell restaurant in Liverpool.

The artwork depicts the Liverpool skyline and an abstract River Mersey which contains many objects that celebrate Liverpool's rich culture. These include; the ferry across the Mersey, the yellow submarine (The Beatles), the Liver Bird, Superlambanana, a guitar (music), football fans (Liverpool and Everton) and flowers (the parks). The White Star and The Cream companies are also hidden within the painting

It took a week to complete. If you are on Bold Street, pop in to Taco Bell for a photo
