Elvis Costello, The Las, The Zutons and Yachts

This mural is located above 81 Renshaw Records in Liverpool. As part of the BBC's National Album Day celebrations, this mural was painted by Paul Curtis in 2022. The theme for the 2022 celebrations was debut albums.

Paul and the team at 81 Renshaw looked through several debut album covers created by Merseyside artists. They wanted to include more than one album in the design. The rejected artists included The Beatles, Frankie goes to Hollywood, Cast, Echo and the Bunnymen and The Stands. No one was rejected due to their music or quality, but rather it was a design decision based on what images worked together.

In the end, the artists' debut albums chosen were: My Aim is True (Elvis Costello), The Las (The Las), Who Killed The Zutons (The Zutons) and Yachts (Yachts). These album covers could be merged together and work within the constraints of the building (i.e. the wall dimensions and the windows!).

The mural took three days to paint and was completed in time for the BBC National Album Day on 15th October 2022.
